Harlem Foundation

The Harlem Economic Development and Industry Foundation, Inc. (Harlem Foundation) is a nonprofit organization exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  The Harlem Foundation was formed by the City for the purpose of preserving and embracing Harlem’s past and developing programs to promote the future.  These programs include economic development, education, and beautification.

The Board of Directors consists of the Harlem City Manager, one City Council Member, a member of the Planning & Zoning Commission, a Member of the Historic Preservation Commission, three members at large who are property owners in the City, and two further members at large.

In the past, donations to the Foundation have been used to fund façade grants for downtown businesses and to make various improvements to the historic Columbia Theatre. A number of buildings have also been deeded to the Foundation, and those properties will be key as the City pursues redevelopment in the downtown area.
