The Harlem Library was the home of Helen & Frank J. Walton. The house was built in 1904 by a Harlem resident Frank Hatcher. The house was deeded to the City of Harlem in 1974, with the stipulation that it was to be used for a library . In 1980, the Harlem Woman's Club decided to establish the first library in Columbia County. It would be the home given by Mrs. Walton.

Recent renovations include an addition of 700 square feet, done in the style of the existing 100 year-old building, as well as interior refurbishing. The addition is used for programs and meetings, and includes handicapped restrooms.
